Established in 1971 as one of the first multi-disciplinary artist run centres, A Space has played a significant role in the evolution of contemporary art in Canada. Over the past decades, A Space has developed a curatorial practice that is inclusive of diverse aesthetics, politically engaged, technically innovative and representative of our Membership.

A space has a thirty year history of multi-disciplinary artist-run activity. The organizations' mandate encompasses the investigation, presentation and interpretation of contemporary art forms, different disciplines and theories. A Space maintains a politically engaged issue oriented programming that is inclusive of a wide range of media, disciplines and views. The Board of Directors and membership are committed to programming work that crosses disciplines, cultures, abilities, gender and sexual orientation as well as work in new media and technologies.
