Community Totem

The Art Starts Community Totem is a millennium project that celebrates cultural diversity in our community. The project has two parts: First, a Totem will be installed at Cy Townsend park (Vaughan & Winona). Artist, Reinhard Reitzenstein, assisted by local artists, will create a totem that reflects the rich cultural fabric of this incredibly diverse community. The second component involves the collection of heritage stories from community residents for inclusion in our local libraries. This time capsule will include audio and video tape recordings and written accounts of stories of life in this area. In addition, there will be a workshop/panel event to expand our understanding of the concept of the Totem and its significance to all. Workshops will begin in May/June, 2000.
