Contact CAB

Established in 1971 as one of the first multi-disciplinary artist-run centres, A Space has played a significant role in the evolution of contemporary art in Canada. Over the past decades, A Space has developed a curatorial practice that is inclusive of diverse aesthetics, politically engaged, technically innovative and representative of our membership. We encourage emerging artists and curators, and strongly endorse culturally specific, community based projects.

A Space has maintained an issue oriented programming direction that is inclusive of a wide range of media, disciplines and views. The Board of Directors and membership are committed to programming work that crosses disciplines, cultures, abilities, gender and sexual orientation, as well as work in new media and technologies.

Programming at A Space is selected through membership committees and may take place in the gallery or at satellite locations. Current programming direction emphasizes the proactive solicitation of proposals by artists from diverse communities, as well as the development of self-generated projects in specific themes or media. Artist fees are paid at CARFAC rates, and submissions to the gallery are accepted annually at our May 15 and November 1 deadlines.
